Golson Gone

Everett Golson QB starter is no longer enrolled at Notre Dame. Student privacy just leaves it at that.

So – big wrench thrown into the football program with just Rees, Hendrix and freshman Zaire left. Why the hell didn’t this happen before Kiel left – what a big mistake that kid made.

Probably never will find out the reason for Golson’s departure but that leaves Kelly with a real coaching challenge. Rees looks like the starter now and maybe the football God’s will hit him with a little extra mobility and arm strength – after all ND is God’s team so anything can happen.

  1. Notre Dame is the finest college football program in the land. No other program would have the balls to suspend its starting QB after a national championship appearance.

Notee Dame takes academics seriously. If Alabama took it half as seriously, they wouldn’t be able to field a team.

That being said, I also applaud Golson for pledging to return, and get those grades up. Let’s face it. Golson isn’t going to the pros. He’ll need that degree and he knows it

ND will get by with Rees. He seems like a real good kid after what he put up with last year. ND will be ok.

More concerning is the defection of signed LOIs. I’d let the integrity lacking kid back out and tell him not to let the door hit him on the ass on the way out.

    1. Hey Chris–yea now looks like academics did him in–but must have been overall grade point average that got him tossed. If just one class he could take it again in Summer School.

I really hope Rees can improve his arm strength and just run the offense. Opponents just stacked the box, blitzed knowing he can’t throw long. We’ll see–maybe Zaire can run a series or 2 if we get a lead. RB’s really have to step it up.

This situation would mean nothing to Saban–think he would stand for McCarron out for something as silly as academics.

While I don’t want a kid trying to back out of his signed LOI I think we have to hold him to it or LOI’s would be meaningless. Let him sit out a year then go wherever he wants. I was shocked that he picked ND over UCLA.
