Should Golson redshirt this season?

With fall camp only three weeks away the quaterback question at Notre Dame is still on everybody minds. Who is going to start? Who should the back up be? Who should the change-up guy be? Where does Andrew Hendrix fit in? Should Everett Golson be redshirted? Who is going to tranfer? Lots of questions. I like Dayne Crist but he gets rattled way to easy and is prone to injury. Tommy Rees showed a lot of heart at the end of last season and found ways to win but is he the right guy out of the four quarterback we have now to lead the team for this season and in the future? All roads lead to Golson being the future star but do we play him this season or save him and let him really learn the offense? My feeling is if we put Golson in over Hendrix we are going to lose Hendrix. It’s a very confusing situation over there at ND for QB. Thought?

  1. Agree with above – Crist should start, then Hendrix and Rees #2 (Rees will probably start if Crist gets hurt, but I would like to see Hendrix play if they are handily beating a team). Then Golson should Red Shirt – he will be playing bball at ND, so I think redshirting would fit Golson well.

    1. Hawk–thanks for checking in to the site. Your comments solid and appreciated. I was not sure what the deal re–bb was with Golson.

Christ really has to step up– barring injury.
I want Hendrix to play–get him into Game 1 at least for a series, especially if running game is in gear.

  2. I really want to see Hendrix play this year. I thnink in order for that to happen Crist is going to need to put up at least a 21 point buffer and the offensive line has to be stellar. This waiting is killing me. 1 Month to go! Go Irish!

  3. I think he should. Rees is a good Qb and going to start the next 3 years. tha was there golson gets 2 full years as the starter

    1. Brandon–appreciate your input and thanks for checking out our site–your comments are necessary to carry on the conversation–keep it up we need your insights and will try to respond asap–still working out the kinks on this site.

Question for you–what is your opinion on names on jerseys. I’m in favor, don’t really think that takes away team concept ala Holtz, Paterno etc– time to join modern times, especially with TV–we don’t all have a game day program–so at least we know who is playing–good or bad. Don’t for a minute think players thinking about it–do you have a preference? and why.

      Look forward to your response.

    2. Hey Brandon,
Thanks for the comment. I think Tommy Rees is a good QB who will get better but we need somebody now who can inject some speed and get the spread working the Kelly way wants it. I will not be suprised if we see Golson in the Purdue game by the 2nd quarter.
