Commit Number 19 Drue Tranquill

Tranquill runs a 4.5 and at 6’2″ 210 is an ideal Safety prospect. ND will also give him a shot at ILB where his speed will help against the pass, something we are lacking right now. From Ft. Wayne Indiana, Drue recently de-committed from Purdue. Other offers include Penn State and Wisconsin.

Good athlete with good speed – looks like a RKG.

Desperately need a few DT’s for this class. If need be just bring in a few big bodies.

Here is his highlight reel:

Commit #17 Nick Watkins

Elite 4 Star DB Nick Watkins 6′ 190 from Bishop Dunne HS Dallas Texas committed to ND yesterday. He is the first DB commit for the 2014 Class.

Numerous offers including Texas, Texas A&M, Michigan, Oklahoma, Alabama, LSU, Ohio State, USC and UCLA.

Watkins has everything you want in a db size and elite speed. Very good chance he sees playing time his Freshman year.

2014 Commit #17 Isaiah McKenzie

McKenzie tweeted that he committed to ND. Small, fast slot receiver standing at 5’8″ 165 lbs from South Florida – that’s 3 receivers for this class.

Now we really need DT’s and ILB’s.

Check out his highlight video:

Commit Number 17 Defensive Lineman Matt Dickerson

Recruited by Mike Denbrock 3-4 Star Defensive Lineman Matt Dickerson 6’5″ 275 lb commits while visiting the ND campus over the weekend. This was a much needed get as ND sorely need DL in this class.

From San Mateo Calif, with offers from almost all the Pac 12 schools including USC, Oregon and UCLA Matt seems all in for the 2014 class – we just have to watch UCLA carefully here. Dickerson can play anywhere on the DL including NG.

This class filling up early with just a handful of spots left. We just need to keep what we have and ND needs to announce a new contract for Brian Kelly NOW for a successful conclusion with some of the big time recruits left on the board.

Commit Number 16 For 2014 Class OLB Richard Yeargin

Tony Alford does it again and reels in 4 Star recruit Richard Yeargin 6’3″ 225 lb. Ft. Lauderdale Fla. OLB. Yeargin had offers from all over – SEC, Stanford, USC among many others. Yeargin committed this past Friday after visiting Florida. Another good pick up from the South.

Brian Kelly meets the press and confirms contract extension is just about final and ND will let everyone know very soon. Like all coaches in pre-season Kelly is optimistic for 2013 and wants to build on the 2012 success. Here is the press conference:

Corey Holmes 15th Commit in 2014 Class

Wide Receiver Corey Holmes, 4 Star 6’2″ 175 from St. Thomas Aquinas HS in Fort Lauderdale joins Justin Brent from Indiana as the second receiver in this class.

Holmes visited Notre Dame on 4 occasions and after just visiting UCLA opted for ND and committed today.

He was long expected to go with ND and had offers from all over the map. So we have 2 receivers, highly rated QB and probably the best RB recruit in the fold. Still looking for that big NG and DT.

So as we approach Fall Camp we have only 5-7 slots left to fill. Nice looking Class – so far.

Notre Dame Picks Up 14TH Commit Grant Blankenship

Starting to roll on the recruiting trail with 14th commit in the 2014 Class Grant Blankenship 6’5″ 240 DE/ OLB from Texas selects Irish over Oklahoma and others to help bolster the Defense. Right now, more of an OLB but ND hoping he grows into a Defensive End – very quick and agile.

Blankenship camped at ND this summer and made big impression on the Irish coaches regarding his overall athletic ability and helps bolster what they are trying to do on the “D”. Great pickup for us. This is important in that ND has had a hard time prying recruits out of the State of Texas. Kerry Cooks recruits Texas which has to be frustrating and landing Blankenship is a Big deal for him and ND.

Check out the clip.

Commit #13 for 2014 Class DE or OLB Jonathan Bonner

Bonner is a 3 Star recruit from Missouri currently about 6’4″ 240-250 who can play either the DE position but is fast enough to play OLB in this defense. As a DE he is similar to Kapron Lewis Moore but heavier at this stage.

Bonner has connections to ND – his uncle is former Safety Sergio Brown. Among others he had offers from Tenn. and Michigan but after camping at ND last week, he was offered and committed immediately.

This class filling nicely but still need a big Nose guard and another big DT along with a couple of ILB’s.

Time for Swarbrick and Kelly to get a new contract signed–really surprised at the delay. With recruiting entering final phase – get this done.

Commit # 10 For The 2014 ND Class

Offensive Tackle Alex Bars 6’6″ 295 became the 4th OL to commit in this class joining Byrne, Mustipher and Nelson on the line. Current 4 Star from Nashville Tenn. with offers everywhere including Penn State and Michigan where his brothers play. His father Joe Bars played for Gerry Faust at Notre Dame. That should just about close out OL recruiting for this class – but one more out there that ND is pursuing.

Now it comes down to numbers – believe only 8-9 slots left. So ND’s sitting pretty going into the summer. Like to see us get a BIG Nose Guard now.

Here is his highlight reel (he’s #70):

Quenton Nelson OT 9th Commit for The 2014 Class

Notre Dame picks up big time recruit as Quenton Nelson 6’5″ 295 lbs from Red Bank Catholic HS NJ commits to the 2014 class. That makes 3 OL for the class. Nelson as an OT joins OG’s Byrne and Mustipher.

Everybody wanted this kid – OSU, Alabama, Oklahoma, Stanford and about 40 others – great, great pickup for ND.as they stock up on OL – guess they take just 1 more for this class that would give them 2 OT’s and 2 OG’s. Really exciting news for Irish fans.

Here’s a clip of Nelson – he’s #56 LT in film – he really has a motor – so enjoy.

In other news Roby Toma a free agent with the Baltimore Ravens.
