Navy Week 2010

As the game nears, I am hopeful that ND can come up with some kind of defensive scheme that allows  Teo and Calabrese to just concentrate on the run.

They do not handle pass coverage well–so just let them loose to kill the ballcarrier.  Navy is just too fast and they are too inexperienced to have to worry about both .  Just let them do what they do best and let the safeties do the pass coverage.  Defense will have enough problems with cut/chop blocks.

Fonder memories–see clip 1964 game.  Ara’s first year and Huarte wins the Heisman.

NAVY WEEK MUSINGS – 10/19/2010

Earlier posts hammering Navy as cheap shot artists may be misunderstood.  Certainly when we are at war due respect must be shown to our soldiers in the field.  Ok I’m cool with that , but these guys at Navy are not returning warriors so their style of play is fair game.  I never had a problem with Army or Air Force when they ran the same offense–they seem to have a higher (ethical) quality of player than Navy.  I had not thought of last yrs game that much and came across a few highlight videos–see below–not very pretty but instructive.

I originally thought that this is the year we really pulverize them, but film clips clearly show that Navy kicked our asses all over the field last year. We had Clausen Tate Floyd and a senior dominated OL yet could only score 21 points.  Despite cut blocks Navy hit a whole lot harder and played much tougher than ND. My optimism has faded fast.

Especially nervous on hearing we have a handle on Navy offense since have been practicing it for 4-5 weeks.  Eerily reminiscent of Tenuta bragging he knew everything that could be known about it and had no worries.  Again pass right down middle of field for TD–tradition continues.  ILB’s Teo and Smith got bounced around like pinballs.

Following up  my previous on the WM game–check out video of sportsmanship displayed by Navy.

Our defensive players have serious problems with the Navy offense for the simple reason they have to play each play 1st. protecting their knees.  Navy especially takes cheap shots and every blocker goes for the opponents knees.  A practice that is borderline and would be called on every other respectable team.

Watch this video–just one example. Check out this future Admiral.

Pay them back– every time a cheap shot occurs–rip their helmets off–hopefully with their heads still in it.  Hope the coaching staff is on this.

What the hell was that.  Really! Tip of the hat to WM.  What did they have 3,4 turnovers in the first half and still put up 17 points.

ND -4 yds rushing and Crist getting sacked, rushed sacked and rushed by guys smaller than some High School teams.  The OL needs some serious work as does the DL.

Sooner or later this team is going to get the s–t kicked out of them

WM QB threw and ran for about 300 yds–I think or close to it or sure seemed like it.  We really have not seen a real quality passing QB but Utah and USC both have one and it could get real ugly for ND fast.

Can understand not getting exited about this game but to get pushed around and outmuscled just shouldn’t happen.

Some kudos to major hits by Manti Carlo Zeke and a few others-some real nice tackles made–let’s just try to get them before the 1st down.

Still a win is a win and Kelly was mad enough for all of us.  So on to Navy–bunch of cheapshot, cut blocking a–holes.  And don’t get all weepy and sing their song after the game–just rip their heads off during the game.

One final thought—how frightening is that announcer Tom Hammond.

New site folks–sorta trying to gather extreme ND fans worldwide — no need for the limp wristed fans who seem to be wailing all over the place about everything from 3-3 to recruiting horrors.   Well on this site we will try to address all your issues.

Record first–3 losses–is it possible that we can cover someone running right down the middle of the field for long gain or score in any game–no.  It’s a tradition that we must continue.  As good Catholics we must give the other team every opportunity to look good. Even though we are told that will be corrected we are like 15 yrs, multiple coaches that they are working on the basics of that play every day in practice–don’t worry that’s something easily addressed.

Players–  Chris Watt must play period.  We have a LG and RG who are going thru the motions–sure one is distracted by Law School while the other becomes more sissified every game.  Only ND can get a guy from Nebraska and make a turnip out of him.

One thought–Ragone–should have been great–he certaintly was great with reporters stupid questions–good, now take the tough guy role and do something on the field–NJ’s honor involved.

Defense–Am I the only one who thinks Carlo Calabrese is out playing Teo?

Is Ethan Johnson still on the team?

Harrison looks good

Recruits– more to fall? I think so but who cares. Get the guys that go to MSU.

Prediction: ND 23 WM 15 Christ throws 5 ints
