Spring Practice Halfway Point

While we only get a glimpse of any actual action, it makes it very difficult to really make any reliable comment as to what is going on.

Let’s look at the QB’s–we have 4 Rees, Hendrix, Golson and Kiel. We also have such a complicated offense that not even a pre-med major Hendrix’s can fully grasp it. Which begs the question–how is it that Cinncy, Grand Prarie QB’s had no problem at all–Pike at Cinncy looked no better to me than Rees and in watching Cinncy–they just threw the ball as soon as it got in QB’s hands–what 3 seconds? Interestingly though all their receivers looked wide open.

So is the ND problem the receivers? It just looked so fast and easy.

So where are we and what does Kelly do–this is what I think:

Unless someone really stands out and is flat out superior Rees keeps the job–if everything is equal then you go with experience. Rees has started for 2 yrs and going into year 3 should have a big edge to start against Navy. Then who is #2 ? depends–if Kiel as good as expected, I move him into early action.

Hendrix? Golson–use like Tebow–you could even have 3 QB’s in game at same time–Golson and Hendrix lined up in the RB position –direct snap to either then run or pass.

All conjecture but with the schedule we have I think it will be Rees–all he has to do is not fumble and throw ints and go to some QB school over the summer to correct his or limit his costly errors. Or maybe maturity will finally settle in.

***Sad Note–former ND QB Blair Kiel dead at 50. Remember fondly seeing him QB Gerry Faust’s 1st game in win over LSU in 1981.***
